Ariel is the founder of Heartwood Midwifery which opened January of 2019 in Salmon Arm. Heartwood Midwifery now operates as part of the Selkirk Medical Group in Revelstoke and Ariel also runs the Heartwood Postpartum Care Program out of Salmon Arm.

Ariel is a graduate of the University of British Columbia’s Bachelor of Midwifery program, delivered through the Department of Family Practice and Faculty of Medicine.  She is also an International Board Certified Lactation Consultant.

She has been a registered midwife since 2017 and has a special interest in rural maternity care in the province’s southern Interior. In previous years, she has worked with families on Vancouver Island and in central B.C, as well as southern Alberta in varying midwifery models. Ariel was drawn to maternity care as an advocate for families to take an active role in their healthcare during the childbearing year. She also remains passionate about exploring inter professional collaboration and its ability to fortify and sustain rural obstetrical units.

Ariel enjoys mountain life and all the activities this opportunity presents.

what is MIDWIFERy?

  • Midwifery is a specialized clinical practice that focuses on the prenatal care, labor and delivery care, and postpartum care of healthy and low-risk families

  • Midwives have very similar scopes of practice to Family Physicians who provide maternity care and are primary care providers during this period

  • Midwifery care services are covered through your BC Care Card and most provinces have midwifery services covered, individually
